What does it take to be a writer? This is a question I find myself pondering in the interim between working my usual 9-5 and dreams of writing the next "great American novel". If I had to hazard a guess—judging by what the authors of the past and present have said—words like "dedication", "work", "wordsmith-ery" (if that's even a word...) and "time-management" might come to mind, along with a few additional words such as "tedious", "rejection" and even "failure"... but never "futile". You might be surprised to read this (maybe, maybe not, I'm not psychic), but I grew up reading stories—mostly mythology, but also a good deal of fiction: They were stories of knights and Kings, of scholars and contracts, of falls from grace, of life, love, hatred and death, of purpose, of resolve... of hope.
This is to be both a record of my journey thus far and a place in which I share short stories, poems–really anything I write—with the world.
I can't say that I'm on the level of Goethe or Shelly—certainly not Milton or Dumas—I can't even see myself being among greats like Remarque or L'Amour, but I do know one thing: I can at least tell my own story; if someone enjoys what I have to say, it's well worth a shot...
Welcome.
More to come—as soon as I figure out what else to write here...
